These pretzels are the perfect game day treat! They are baked, soft, and sprinkled with salt. Dip into your favorite mustard and serve warm right out of the oven!
Prep time: 70 minutes Cook time 15 minutes
Ingredients:
-1 cup warm water
-1/4 cup light brown sugar
-1 packet of active dry yeast
-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
-2 3/4 cups of flour (you may need extra for kneading)
-1/2 cup baking soda
-1 egg (whisked)
-course salt
-mustard of your choice (yellow mustard, spicy brown mustard, or honey mustard)
Next Step:
-Add the sugar to warm water and stir until dissolved.
-Then add the active dry yeast over the warm water and let sit for 5 minutes.
-Stir in your vegetable oil.
-Stir in 2 1/2 cups of flour and mix with a spoon.
-Knead with your hands for a couple of minutes, add the extra flour if the dough is too sticky. (your dough should be smooth)
-Set in a greased bowl for 1 hour. (cover)
-Preheat oven to 450 F
-Add parchment paper to a large baking dish and grease.
-Boil large put of water- then add the baking soda.
-Take out dough and put on a floured surface. Knead for a couple of minutes.
-Slice dough into 15 strips and roll into pretzel rods.
-Place 5 rods in your boiling water at a time. Leave in for 15-20 seconds and then take out (let water drip off) and place on your baking sheet.
-Once all of your pretzels are lined on the baking sheet, add your egg wash on each pretzel and sprinkle with coarse salt.
-Bake for 13-15 minutes. (bake until a nice golden color)
-Remove and serve warm with a side of mustard.
