Is there anything better then a delicious homemade apple tart!?! This is always my favorite dessert to make after my family goes apple picking. My kids love helping me design the apple pattern, and you really can't go wrong with this recipe! It is easy to put together and SO yummy! Be sure to serve it with warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. xo
-5 Granny Smith Apples
-1/3 cup dark brown sugar
-1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
-Juice from 1/2 lemon
-1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
-9 tablespoons salted butter (melted)
-1 egg yolk
-1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-1/4 cup dark brown sugar
-pinch of salt
-1 1/2 tablespoons butter (cubed small) to add on top.
-1 tablespoon of strawberry preserves
-Preheat oven to 350 F and take out a 10 inch tart pan with removable bottom.
-Peel and slice the apples and add them to a large bowl.
-Immediately add the lemon juice on top, followed by the brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Stir to coat the apples. Set aside.
-In a large bowl add the flour, cinnamon, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt. Whisk to combine.
-Melt 9 tablespoons of butter and pour over the flour mixture. Stir to combine. Then add in the egg yolk.
-Use your hands for a few minutes to blend the dough. (It will be crumbly)
-Pour the dough into the tart pan and press down to form an even layer.
-Using a fork, add some holes to the dough.
-Layer the apples on top in a circular design.
-Once your design is complete, sprinkle a little granulated sugar and cinnamon sugar on top.
-Lastly, add the cubed cold butter on top of your tart.
-Bake for 55 minutes.
-Heat up the strawberry preserves in the microwave.
-Take out and brush the apple tart with the warm strawberry preserves.
-Let rest for 10 minutes.
-Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
